Wyoming Tribune Eagle Article Featuring Evan Green
Dec 16, 2023
Our very own Evan Green, Firearms Historian and longtime museum volunteer, was recently featured in the Wyoming Tribune Eagle!
There’s a fine line between fact and fiction. Evan Green knows where to draw that line.
Green, 79, has been volunteering at the Wyoming State Museum in some capacity since 2015, but for the last several years, he’s been working as the museum’s resident firearm historian. Though this, too, is a volunteer position, Green arrives at roughly 10 am every weekday to analyze, research, and catalogue the roughly 400 collected firearms in his small workspace on the third floor of the Barrett Building…
With a little help from Google and other sources, Green has learned to identify when and where a gun was made by referencing the serial number, patent and traits of the weapon…
The trouble is, solidifying a place and time of production doesn’t answer every question. That’s when he starts to speculate…
It's a great feature and we hope you’ll take some time to read it. We’re so grateful for Evan, his expertise, and the time he commits to our museum.

Paid Internship Opportunity
Develop three new Conservation Trunks for elementary classrooms!
The Wyoming State Museum is looking for an intern to help us design three different Education Trunks that will focus on habitats, wildlife, and conservation in Wyoming. These trunks will be created to support K-5 classrooms, contain hands-on animal biofacts (skulls, pelts, claws, and more), and include an engaging curriculum that aligns with Wyoming science standards.
This position is generously funded by support from the Wyoming Wildlife Foundation.
Sponsor Spotlight
Wyoming Community Foundation
Welcome to our NEW Sponsor Spotlight, a monthly update on the impact we make thanks to the support from local businesses, organizations, and funders.
This month we want to highlight the Wyoming Community Foundation (WCF) and their generous support of our Family Day program.
The Wyoming State Museum’s Family Day event series is the largest and most successful programming the museum offers to the public. This free program is centered around various themes that tie back to Wyoming, ranging from science to history to recreation to culture and more! These themes drive our planning, allowing us to invite relevant community partners, curate educational programming, showcase artifacts from our collections, and design interactive crafts and games. Family Day events provide a fun, safe, and engaging space to learn and spend time together. For many of our Family Day participants, this is an event they return to every month.
Last summer, we received a grant from the Wyoming Community Foundation so we could hire a part-time Family Day Coordinator to assist with the planning and execution of our Family Day events. This grant has resulted in us hiring Katey Parris, a seasoned museum and archives professional who has assisted with the logistical elements of the Family Day events since July, 2023. Thanks to her, and the funding from WYCF, our Family Days are growing and thriving each month!
Want to see what Family Days are all about? Come see us on February 3rd for Animal Athletes! You can register your family for FREE using this link.
