Back in D.C. after the holiday...   Washington, D.C. - I hope everyone has stayed warm and safe despite the cold, icy weather! I was honored to attend a Korean American Day celebration in Carrollton and speak on the valuable role the North Texas Korean American community has played in shaping our economy and culture. On Wednesday, it was great to see North Texans from the National Association of Manufacturers. They were in town to discuss improving trade programs and ensuring the success of domestic manufacturing. Then, I spoke with the new president of the National Association of Professional Employer Organizations about how we can work together to support small businesses in North Texas. Later, I joined my colleagues from both sides of the aisle in voting to denounce Biden and Mayorkas’ purposeful actions which have turned control of our southern border to Mexican drug cartels and ushered in a new era of narco slavery. You can watch my remarks on the House floor about the border crisis by clicking here or on the photo below. On Thursday, I met with students from the Highlands School in Irving. I appreciated the chance to answer their questions about my work to represent them in Washington. Young people inspire me to keep fighting so they can inherit an America with a bright future. Then, I joined my colleagues on the House Committee on Small Business for a hearing about expanding capital access for our nation's job creators. We had a variety of witnesses, including Kevin O'Leary, who were able to share their expertise on helping small businesses thrive. I also spoke on the House floor in strong support of legislation to block a disastrous Biden rule to strip funding from pregnancy resource centers, which provide services like ultrasounds, diapers and formula, and parenting classes. I'm pleased to share that the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act was passed. You can click here or on the photo below to watch my remarks on the floor. Later, I met with North Texans from the Irving-based FleetPride, which is the largest heavy duty parts distributor in the nation. We had a productive conversation about reforms that will improve auto-repair businesses' ability to access critical resources needed to perform repairs. Yesterday, the House was a presented with a continuing resolution ("CR") that maintained unsustainable Pelosi-Biden spending levels and did nothing to force the Biden administration to stop the border crisis. I couldn't support a bill that maintained the status quo of reckless spending in Washington and neglected the national security threat of our open border. I'll continue to work to reduce wasteful spending address our nation's debt crisis. Today, I joined my Committee on Ways and Means colleagues to advance bipartisan legislation that provides much-needed tax relief for American families, workers, and job creators. You can learn more about this important legislation in the Texas-24 Work of the Week section below. Today, as thousands fill the streets of our nation’s capital to march for the unborn, I was honored to speak at the March for Life breakfast to kick off this incredible day of advocacy. I’m hopeful for a brighter future where all life is valued and protected. Texas-24 Work of the Week I'm pleased to share that after more than a year of work, my Ways and Means colleagues and I voted to advance a bipartisan tax relief plan that will help North Texas families. Our plan will empower our working families to keep more of their hard-earned money, reduce the red tape that is strangling our small businesses, and return to a tax structure that encourages research and development here at home. Texas-24 Hometown Hero Our Texas-24 Hometown Hero is the Network of Community Ministries which provided underprivileged students in our district with meals over the Christmas break! I’m thankful their work to serve North Texas children and families. Elementary DC Fly-In I’m excited to announce our newest student program, the Elementary Fly-In in Washington, D.C.! To encourage civic engagement and instill a love for democracy in TX-24 elementary students, I’m organizing a nighttime tour of the Capitol Building, a group visit to historic landmarks and an educational breakfast in the beautiful Library of Congress from April 11-12, 2024. I hope you and your children will join me on this memorable excursion to our nation's capital! Rep. Van Duyne in the News Watch Rep. Van Duyne on Inside Texas Politics Watch Rep.
