Dear CV Friend,
In his first address after becoming pope in 1978, St. John Paul
II said this:
"One expression only, among so many others, comes immediately to
our lips at this moment:
'O the depth...of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How
unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!'"
Acknowledging the sudden tragic death of John Paul I, he
continued:
"How could we have been able to foresee that this formidable
heritage would have been placed on our shoulders? For this
reason, it is necessary for us to meditate upon the mysterious
design of the provident and good God, not indeed in order to
understand, but, rather, that we may worship and pray. Truly we
feel the need to repeat the words of the Psalmist who, raising
his eyes aloft, exclaimed: "From whence does my help come? My
help comes from the Lord." (Ps 120:1-2).
Our help comes from the Lord!
Our nation is going through an incredibly difficult time. Due to
COVID-19, whole industries are being shuttered, cities (even
entire states) are quarantined, and perhaps most distressing of
all...our churches are closed, and many sacraments have been
suspended.
During this difficult time, our first priority at CatholicVote is
to pray for the health and safety of our friends, family,
caregivers, and our nation.
To this end, we are praying with each of you. Just this week we
are leading a Novena to Our Lady of the Annunciation whose feast
we celebrate next Wednesday. And of course, a lot of rosaries...
Our help indeed comes from the Lord. And our Blessed Mother is
our intercessor!
At the same time, I want you to know that we are not suspending
any programs. The country may be reduced to a standstill, but we
are not. Joe Biden's campaign just received $18 million from
Michael Bloomberg this morning. He's ramping up, not slowing
down. And the shameless attacks on the President have not
stopped because of this national emergency.
LATEST UPDATE: We now have full-time staff in 5 key battleground
states. Your CV team is recruiting parish captains and volunteer
teams via phone and email to make use of our unrivaled database
of over 4 million mass-attending Catholics across these target
states. We are networking with pastors, priests, Knights of
Columbus councils, pro-life groups, and more.
As a young woman in Florida recently put it: "Finally! Someone
is organizing the Catholics! What took so long?"
By the time we are done, we will have built the largest and most
advanced Catholic voter mobilization movement ever. And you are
helping make it happen.
Here's the truth: when the virus threat finally begins to
subside, I can promise you the political attacks will be
relentless. While nobody wants anyone to die, I have no doubt
there are people rooting for the virus to create more political
and economic chaos for our President. And sadly, some of these
partisans are Catholic.
But our work right now will avoid scoring political points.
Instead we are focused on uniting Americans as we fight through
this unprecedented trial. That's why I've asked our creative
team to focus their efforts on producing and distributing "good
news" content to bring us together, inspire hope, and to put our
creative talents into action -- for every American.
I'd love your ideas on how your CV team can help serve this goal.
