We grew up on stories of service from our parents and grandparents. Their legacy inspired our own service.

The Greatest Generation fought dictators, fascists, and authoritarians — people who brought the world to the brink. For the benefit of the entire world, they were defeated.

Our generation has a fight of our own. We aren’t going to raise the American flag over Iwo Jima, or punch a Nazi in the face at Omaha Beach. But we will fight.

Our challenge is to stop the rise of dictators, fascists, and authoritarians here at home.

Make no mistake: Trump and his supporters are fashioning themselves after the same people that our parents and grandparents fought. Absolute control.

If we defeat them, we can save our democracy. If we fail, we could fall into darkness.
