Friend –
Greetings and salutations! My name is Mike Lee, and I am excited and humbled to begin my service this week as the next executive director of the ACLU of Pennsylvania. As a lifelong Philadelphian, I am ready to get to work to protect and advance the civil liberties of everyone in the commonwealth.
I can't wait to get to know more ACLU members. And maybe you want to know a little bit about me. I came to ACLU-PA after serving in the administration of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, first as the director of government affairs and then as chief of staff. I'm also the founder of Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity, a nonprofit group that provides free legal advice and representation to low-income Philadelphia residents with criminal records.
My passion for the work of the ACLU is why I volunteered with the organization as a law student, served on the Philadelphia chapter board, collaborated as a nonprofit partner, and wished upon a star as a candidate for this position.
I am most excited about the opportunity to grow personally and professionally by connecting with ACLU-PA members, staff, and volunteers. I believe ACLU-PA is uniquely positioned to challenge, educate, and improve governments across Pennsylvania through our priorities, campaigns, and organizational values.
Resistance to social change is intensifying because of our successes and accomplishments, especially in voting rights, public safety reform, and police reform. This is why we must continue our efforts to protect the equity achieved to date and obtain the full equity we all seek. I look forward to your partnership in our journey for change.
In liberty,
Mike Lee
Executive Director, ACLU of Pennsylvania
