Democrat,

Governor Murphy and his administration are continuing to respond to the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic by announcing new social distancing policies, business closures and more. The goal is to “flatten the curve” of new cases by isolating people from each other in order to prevent our health care system from being overwhelmed.

This is a frightening time for New Jersey and the entire world. While we need to observe the guidance and directives being given by our elected leaders and public health professionals, we also must stay calm and resolute. We will get through this together.

Governor Murphy and state officials have continued to provide daily updates on the crisis, from reporting the number of new cases to announcing additional social distancing initiatives. Today, the Governor visited a new drive-in testing facility that opened in Bergen County, providing people who are showing COVID-19 symptoms with the opportunity to be tested for the virus.

For up to date information regarding new cases and directives regarding the Coronavirus, visit the State Department of Health website or follow Governor Murphy’s official pages on social media.

In response to Governor Murphy’s Executive Order concerning upcoming elections, NJDSC announced this week that the petition requirement for district and alternate delegate candidates for the Democratic National Convention will be removed. Additionally with respect to county committee elections, we have advised that county committees may extend county committee terms to June 2021 as one way to address the COVID-19 issues we are facing.  This recommendation is purely advisory; each county committee has sole discretion to decide how to address this issue for their committees, subject to their bylaws and the social distancing rules imposed by the state and local governments.

Thank you,

Chairman John Currie
