The GOP continues to openly admit their plan to slash our retirement benefits, threatening to raise the retirement age or even gut Social Security for seniors and people with disabilities altogether. That is callous and cruel.
We are reclaiming the conversation. It’s time to focus the Social Security discussion around expansion to maximize benefits for all Americans, not destroying them.
Social Security, as the heart of the American retirement system, provides guaranteed income to workers in retirement, effectively boosts American retirement security, and provides disability income. It is the most important source of retirement income for a vast majority of Americans.
We must focus on improving these benefits for everyone. President Biden and Congress can expand Social Security benefits for millions of Americans, extend the lifespan of the program, and pay for it all by making the wealthy pay their fair share.
