In 2023 the Minnesota Legislature established the Certification of Auto Dealers to Sell Electric Vehicles (EVs) Grant Program (Auto Dealers EV Grant Program) (Minn. Stat. ? 216C.402). The purpose of this grant program is to offset the costs incurred to certify a dealer to sell electric vehicles. Grant program eligible expenses include necessary training and equipment required for certification to sell EVs. Grants will not exceed $40,000 per licensed dealer. The Minnesota Department of Commerce (Commerce) will administer this grant program.
Eligible applicants for this grant program are dealerships of new EV motor vehicles licensed under Minn. Stat. ? 168.27, subd. 2 operating under a franchise from a manufacturer of electric vehicles. Independent dealerships are not eligible (Minn. Stat. ? 216C.402 subd.3).
