Friend,
Right now, the world is facing a rapidly changing public health pandemic.
I want to reassure you that I am working hard each day to protect your health and financial security.
On Wednesday, Republicans and Democrats joined together to pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. The bill provides funding for emergency preparedness including paid sick leave, free coronavirus testing, expanding unemployment insurance, and more.
I've also introduced the bipartisan PREP Act, to make sure folks can access essential benefits needed to prepare for the economic implications caused by the coronavirus. The bill will provide legal guidance, extended nutritional programs, and crisis counseling during this national emergency.
To help small businesses struggling to survive during this crisis, I've introduced the Small Business Repayment Relief Act of 2020. This bill would provide nearly $17 billion in federal funding for the Small Business Administration to cover six months of loan payments -- including principal, interest, and fees -- for all qualified small businesses loans. It would help hundreds of thousands of small businesses across the country, including 27,000 in New York’s 19th Congressional District.
As we continue to combat the spread of COVID-19 and prepare for the short-term and long-term effects of the illness, we are also seeing fights we’ve already been a part of become even more critical. This includes our fight to close the digital divide with access to rural broadband and our fight to achieve universal affordable healthcare.
In the district, we are suspending our in-person town halls, but we will be conducting telephone and virtual town halls (for more information, please contact my official office). The other day, I held a Facebook Live Town Hall with Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan to take questions from the public so you can hear directly from elected leaders on these efforts.
As the situation continues to evolve, please remember to stay calm and practice mindful, sanitary measures to prevent the spread of the illness. In this month's dispatch, I've included links to helpful resources, such as how to talk to your kids about coronavirus and how to practice social distancing. Please share these resources with your friends and family.
Wash your hands (often) with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, engage in social distancing, avoid touching your face (especially your mouth, nose, and eyes) and other people, stay at home if you're sick, and cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing. If you have any questions, please visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/home. If you need further assistance, you can call the NYS Coronavirus Hotline at 1-888-364-3065.
Thank you for taking time to hear from me. Stay safe, stay calm, stay healthy.
WIth love,
Antonio Delgado
