John — Josh Hawley’s crusade to overturn Roe v. Wade had a direct and major impact on the extreme, total abortion ban Missouri immediately enacted after the Supreme Court’s decision in June 2022.
And now, he’s using his power to go even further. Please let me explain:
Hawley was on a mission to criminalize abortion even before he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018. But once he got to DC, he leveraged his new position and power into a family business dedicated to banning abortion in all forms and in all 50 states.
First, he corrupted our courts with judges like Matthew Kacsmaryk — a donor to Hawley’s 2018 campaign who faced bipartisan opposition during his confirmation process due to his Big Brother views on contraception and personal freedoms. Hawley forced through Kacsmaryk’s confirmation anyway.
Then, Hawley used his taxpayer-funded office to support his wife’s efforts as an activist attorney in the Dobbs case to overturn Roe. Missouri became the first state to ban abortion just moments after the Supreme Court’s decision to strike it down.
And now, Hawley is supporting her efforts to ban the most commonly used abortion medication, mifepristone, nationwide — a suit decided by Hawley’s donor judge, that we recently learned will be reviewed by the Supreme Court.
I’m running to defeat Josh Hawley because everyday Missourians deserve a Senator who will stand up and fight for their personal freedoms — not another politician who’s obsessed with using their own power to control our bodies, families, and lives.
If recent wins for abortion rights and red-state Democrats in Kentucky and Ohio tell us anything, it’s that we have a real opportunity to hold Hawley accountable and protect abortion access in Missouri this year. And with news today of the effort to add a constitutional amendment to the 2024 ballot to enshrine abortion rights in Missouri, we’ve got the coalition to make it happen.
