Catching Up With Quigley: Week in Review

I hope you've had a good week. I wanted to touch base and highlight some of the work I accomplished this week. But first, here is an important important update concerning my communications with you going forward.

Now, let's take a look at some of the things I did this week in Congress!

1. Worked With Rescue Dogs at PAWS Chicago

As a pet owner and lifelong animal lover, I’ve been a staunch advocate for animal welfare as a member of the House of Representatives. That has included everything from leading legislation to bar the private ownership of lions and tigers, to advocating for local animal rescue centers.

On Monday, I visited PAWS Chicago to meet with some rescue dogs and learn about the important work PAWS does for these innocent animals. In addition to offering shelter for pets, PAWS provides mental and physical stimulation for their rescue animals. Ensuring these dogs have mental stimulation is extra important, especially during the winter months.

2. Opposed Dangerous Anti-Choice Legislation

As a proud member of the Pro-Choice Caucus, I will always defend a woman's right to choose. I proudly voted NO on two dangerous anti-choice bills this week: the Pregnant Students' Rights Act and the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act. Despite their misleading names, both bills fail miserably to meet the needs of or protect the rights of pregnant people.

The Pregnant Students' Rights Act attempts to codify biased anti-abortion language, keep young pregnant women from becoming aware of all options and resources available to them, and limit students' reproductive health care choices.

The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act diverts money from the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program and instead funnels it to anti-abortion so-called "crisis pregnancy centers." These facilities masquerade as legitimate health care facilities, but instead purposely mislead and provide misinformation to people seeking access to reproductive health care.

3. Made the Case for Additional Aid to Ukraine

On Wednesday, I joined CNN Max with Jim Sciutto to discuss the failure of conservatives to pass additional aid for Ukraine. I emphasized the danger of conditioning foreign policy action on domestic policy disputes, and touch on why some in Congress have lost interest in support for Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, I have been adamant about ensuring the survival of Ukraine's democracy, and ultimately, democracy across the globe. To watch the full interview, click HERE.
