Dear John,
Feminist movements have been under-resourced for generations. In fact, less than 1% of philanthropic funding supports feminist activists.
Here at Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism, we are devoted to providing access to flexible and fast resourcing opportunities to help activists who are in urgent need, serving as one of the few global funders that operate in this way.

Traditionally, funding in the philanthropic space has been too rigid and too scarce to keep frontline feminists safe and resource their power and potential to bring about a more just world. The reasons include:
* The fact that the majority of grantmaking globally is slow-moving: public and private funders alike continue to favor lengthy application timelines, burdensome requirements, and longer-term outcomes.
* Rapid-response grants are still underutilized as a core component of funding – and a critical complement to much needed long-term support – for movement building and social change.
* Most funding is directed to organizations with official non-profit status. As a result, unincorporated groups and individuals – vital leaders of frontline movements – face significantly greater barriers to funding and, likewise, safety and protection from risk.
This is why our work at Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism is so unique. Our grantmaking model provides access to fast, flexible funding so feminist movements can mobilize quickly and effectively in response to unexpected risks and opportunities.
