Assault weapons ban passes PA House Judiciary Committee.
Gun Violence Prevention Advocate,
Yesterday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Judiciary Committee advanced a ban on selling assault weapons.1 This is a first after decades of mass shootings have turned the places where we learn, pray, hang out, and shop into scenes of carnage.
Lewiston. Uvalde. Buffalo. Tree Of Life. Parkland. These and so many other mass shootings had one thing in common–an assault weapon was used to take lives. Trauma surgeons will tell you that the physical damage from these weapons is significantly greater than other firearms.
When used in shootings, six times more people were injured–and double the number of people were killed as compared to the use of other types of firearms.2
Mass shooters have sought out these weapons shortly before carrying out their attacks, sometimes buying them just weeks beforehand. I do not want to wait for the next mass shooting to occur.
