Dear Transit Riders, At the start of the new year, San Francisco Transit Riders will have a change in board leadership. We are excited to welcome new Co-Chairs, Jaime Viloria and Reanna Tong from within the Board. Co-Chair Viloria has been a fierce transit advocate serving the Tenderloin community and making transit wins in the community become the thread that won multiple more wins in the city at the height of the pandemic. Co-Chair Tong astutely balances her public service with the City with her love of serving the community through her support for advocacy efforts of Transit Riders’. In their own words: Co-Chair Viloria on the broader role of public transit: “Let's focus on the common good that public transit provides and continue the groundwork in building an excellent public transportation system that rivals the best in the world!” Co-Chair Tong’s reasons for supporting SFTR: “San Francisco Transit Riders is driven directly by rider experience and needs. Over the years, SFTR has worked to build relationships with youth, seniors, and people living with disabilities, and communities most impacted by transit changes yet least involved in the decision-making process.” At the same time, we are immensely grateful to our outgoing Co-Chairs, Dominique Monie and Thea Selby. Both Director Monie and Director Selby have been close confidantes during my tenure at the Transit Riders. I have personally appreciated taking the ride with them through thick and thin. Director Monie for her calm seasoned leadership and Director Selby for her multiple passionate endeavors for Transit Riders, and they both for their collective wisdom, guidance, and genuine concern for the organization will be missed a lot but not completely since they will continue to be part of the Board. In their own words: “We are excited to pass on the reins to Co-Chairs Viloria and Tong and look forward to continuing to support SFTR with and under their leadership.” Co-Chairs Tong and Viloria will give opening remarks at our Membership Meeting next week on January 24. We hope to see many of you there. While we have been learning about your aspirations and interests with San Francisco Transit Riders through our member surveys and our phone engagement, we are excited to build on that next week. So please register. And another revelation, thanks to the generous donations from everyone, we met our goal for our End-of-Year fundraising in 2023. Special thanks to our matching donations from Lauren Hoy, Zack Deutsch-Gross, and our anonymous donors, you made it an easier pursuit for us. See you next week as we continue to elevate the long-term desires of our riders to advocate for stronger, robust, and affordable transit in San Francisco. Warmly, Vinita Goyal |
