Happy New Year, John!
Each month we send you 3 Good Things that are happening to help kids around the country get the food they need to learn and grow, but this time, we have one great thing to share. We’re excited to share a huge step forward to children’s nutrition nationwide this upcoming summer.
As members of our No Kid Hungry community know, summer can be the hungriest time of year for families across the country as kids lose access to school meals and snacks. In a huge stride, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a sweeping expansion of a new summer-long grocery benefit program for kids, set to begin this upcoming summer!
What does this mean for hungry kids across the country? Students and their families who would have otherwise lost access to the healthy and nutritious meals provided through their schools during the summer months, will now be able to take advantage of the grocery benefit program. They’ll be provided with healthy, nutrient dense meals during historically difficult months.
Read more about the USDA’s announcement and join us in celebrating this huge step forward for children across the country.
With gratitude,
Anne Bell-Fysh
