** Securing Indigenous Peoples' Right to Self-Determination: A Guide on Free, Prior and Informed Consent

------------------------------------------------------------
Wednesday, February 7, 2024
11:00 AM EST/ 8:00 AM PST

The climate crisis and the post-covid economic recovery are significantly increasing the demand for raw materials, which are largely found on Indigenous Peoples' territories. An example is the European vision of becoming climate-neutral by 2050, moving towards a greener economy, and achieving strategic autonomy based on a secure, reliable, and sustainable supply of raw materials.

Although this "green transition" is very important, its success and sustainability will depend on ensuring Indigenous Peoples are meaningfully involved in decision-making as well as on securing their right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), which is outlined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

In this frame, the Securing Indigenous Peoples' Rights in the Green Economy (SIRGE) Coalition, Cultural Survival, and First Peoples Worldwide have released a new FPIC Guide: "Securing Indigenous Peoples' Right to Self-Determination: A Guide on Free, Prior and Informed Consent."

Regardless of whether you are an Indigenous leader, a policymaker, a public authority, or a civil society representative, we invite you to join us in this webinar where Indigenous leaders will explain the right to Free, Prior and Informed Consent and walk you through the guide.

You can find the FPIC guide in several languages (English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese) at this link: www.sirgecoalition.org/fpic-guide
