URGENT: The Department of Justice is asking for feedback on law enforcement use of facial recognition technology, and the deadline is tomorrow, January 19. Can you send them a comment saying you oppose law enforcement use of facial recognition, biometric, and predictive technologies?
John,
Facial recognition and predictive technologies used by law enforcement are biased and infringe on our rights.
We’ve already seen facial recognition lead to the wrongful arrests of Black men and women, used to track people exercising their right to protest, and for the, surveillance of immigrants.1,2,3
That's why we need to ban law enforcement use of this tech—there is just no way to use it safely.
Right now, the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are asking for input on law enforcement using facial recognition, biometric, and predictive technologies, and the impacts on privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties.
The deadline for comments is Friday (1/19)—and it’s critical that your perspective is included. Tell the DOJ and DHS that you oppose these technologies and they must be banned.
The public’s responses will be compiled into a report by the DOJ and DHS. It’s critical that the massive, public opposition to the use of this technology is unavoidable in the final report. Submit your comment now.
Together,
Caitlin and the team at Fight for the Future
