Friend,

As we work together as a nation to get through these tumultuous times, our staff has you and your family in our thoughts and in our prayers. We are following all of the relevant guidelines for the safety of our staff, but we are still working, albeit remotely, to continue to preserve and protect the American family.

This period of social distancing can undoubtedly be hard for some, but it’s truly necessary to help protect the members of our community that are at the most risk. This is not a time for panic, but rather a time to come together and help each other out. Through faith and commonsense we will get through this— stronger than ever before.

For many, there’s a silver lining to social distancing, as it is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your immediate family. On a recent call, I asked our staff what they’ve been up to during their time at home—apart from their work— and wanted to pass on some of the highlights, in case you’re looking for some activities to stay social during social distancing these next few weeks:

* Facetime/skype: We all have friends and family members that we wish we spoke with more often, but it can be hard to find the time. Check in with them. I’m sure they’ll appreciate hearing from you.
* Write cards for the elderly: As you know, many residents in nursing homes are no longer able to receive visitors. If you have spare paper or note cards, writing notes and mailing them to local nursing homes would be a nice family activity that would be sure to brighten someone’s day.
* Board games: Board games can be a great way to spend time as a family. This is a great time to read the rules to one of those complex board games gathering dust in your closet and have a family game night.
* Reading: Under normal circumstances it’s sometimes hard to find time to read, so it’s as good a time as any to open up a book— or download an e-book.
* Cooking/baking: There are a multitude of online resources for recipes, and you may even find a new favorite meal.
* Keep to a schedule: Some of our staff has told me that they’re trying to keep to a schedule to keep things running efficiently in their home. They’re making sure to designate time for work, homework, meals, snacks, walks, etc.

As we move forward, I’ll continue to update you.

Stay safe and stay healthy,
Terry Schilling
