Being a part of this film and experiencing the process of filming it both mean the world to me. During filming, I had spent my entire adult life in prison, so to be featured in a film before I was released was monumental to my confidence regarding my reentry. Knowing that I was not only opening the world's eyes to what rehabilitation and second chances look like, but also receiving a level of reentry support that most people aren't privy to, gave me the courage to stand in my purpose and be the beacon of hope for those who may come after me.
Filming “District of Second Chances” was an emotional rollercoaster for myself and family, because I had to be vulnerable at times all while still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that I was now a free man. However, the entire experience had a very profound impact on my life and I wouldn't trade it for the world!
The film will give you in-depth insight to how our prison system treats its youth, the strength of our youth, and the perseverance of our youth. It tells the story of three extraordinary and resilient men who grew up in a system that made it almost impossible to make it out of. However, not only did they make it out, they made a change, a commitment, and a difference.
I want people to see this film because it's essential to changing the narrative of what and who our young people are and grow up to be, and if we can change the narrative, we can change the world!
