Jack, on Tuesday, Democrats scored their latest in a long line of special elections victories in the Biden era. This one came from Florida, where Daily Kos endorsee Tom Keen flipped a state House seat from red to blue.

This election is important for two reasons:
  1. It's the first step back on the long road back to power for Florida Democrats. The Sunshine State was the quintessential battleground in American politics for decades, but it's trended Republican in recent years. This week's win, plus a victory in the Jacksonville mayor's race last year, represent the beginning of a Democratic resurgence in the state. It's also another important indicator of what sort of year Democrats might have this fall.
  2. It goes to show just how different Daily Kos is from other groups and news outlets. We weren't just here to support Keen with our endorsement, which we rolled out right after he won the Democratic nomination in November. We've been following this race before there even was a race. Back in July, our Elections team reported that Ron DeSantis was contemplating a power-play that would keep this seat vacant for more than a year rather than give Dems a shot at flipping it.
No one else marries news and activism like Daily Kos, and no one else has an endorsement program that is guided by sharp, independent elections analysts. This allows us to pinpoint weak spots in the Republican Party's grip on power and break them. We couldn't do any of this without your help, though.

Daily Kos doesn't have billionaire backers or big corporate sponsors. Our top source of income is donations of just a few bucks at a time from readers like you. The single most powerful thing you can do to support our work is start a monthly recurring donation. This allows us to predict our finances months in advance, giving us the ability to plan expenses and make sure that not one dollar goes to waste.

If you support the unique marriage of news, elections analysis, and activism that Daily Kos provides, then please take a moment right now to start a $5 monthly recurring donation to support our work.

If you can't donate monthly, or if you already have a recurring donation set up, please click here to donate $5 one time so that we have the resources to support the biggest, most strategically valuable endorsement slate we can this election year.

Thank you,
Michael Langenmayr, Daily Kos
