With 2023 behind us, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department is reflecting on some of its most notable projects and news stories from 2023. Each year is different, but one thing remains the same ? the department worked tirelessly to conserve more than 800 species of fish and wildlife that call Wyoming home.

CWD detected in new Wyoming elk hunt area

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has confirmed the presence of chronic wasting disease in Elk Hunt Area 28.

Know before you apply: Nonresident elk changes for 2024

In July 2023 the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission approved changes to?Ch. 44, Regulation for Issuance of Licenses, Permits, Stamps, Tags, Preference Points and Competitive Raffle Chance. The approved changes established three nonresident region general elk hunt areas and general elk license quotas.

Hunting applications open

The new year is here and for hunters it means one thing ? hunting season planning has officially started for the fall.Resident and nonresident hunters can submit applications for elk, deer, antelope, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat and spring wild turkey.

Are you interested in becoming a hunter education instructor?

For those interested in becoming certified to teach hunter education in Wyoming, there are four upcoming training workshops in 2024: *Laramie, January 25-27 Green River, February 8-10 Jackson, April 18-20 Casper, August 8-10 If you don?t have the time or capacity to be a full hunter education instructor but would like to help out, we need hunter education assistants as well! Learn about what the qualifications and responsibilities are, how to apply and to sign up for a 2024 training workshop. *If you would like to participate in this training course, you must apply by this Friday, Jan. 19.

Wyoming Super Tag hunts have a reputation for being special and many hunters dream of the chance to draw one of 10 premier licenses in the Cowboy State for each of the following species: bighorn sheep, moose, elk, mountain goat, wild bison, deer, antelope, mountain lion, gray wolf and black bear. The Super Tag Trifecta is one drawing and the winner chooses any three licenses from those offered.

In 2020, Trey Jebens (pictured below) won the Wyoming Super Tag Trifecta and chose bighorn sheep as one of his three licenses.?Purchase a Super Tag before January 31 for your chance to at a once-in-a-lifetime Wyoming hunt.
