LULAC Condemns ICE raids in Mississippi as State Terrorism
==========================================================

Washington, DC – Yesterday, federal immigration officials raided several
food-processing plants in Morton, Mississippi and arrested approximately 680
people working in the United States. The coordinated raids come days after a
white supremacist killed 22 people in El Paso and injured many more, and follow
the Trump Administration’s trend of attacking the Latino community for partisan
political purpose. Domingo Garcia, the League of United Latin American Citizens
(LULAC) National President, issued the following statement in response to the
raids.

“The raids in Mississippi are immoral and part of a war the Trump Administration
has started against immigrant families. Once again, this Administration has
separated families and left innocent children without their parents, simply for
political purposes motivated by racism and prejudice. President Trump is
targeting immigrant families so that he can play the race card and score cheap
political points in the 2020 elections. LULAC condemns this action as state
sponsored terrorism and is organizing a rescue team to support the families
affected by the raids in Mississippi.”

LULAC is planning to hold a press conference tomorrow, August 9th demanding that
state leaders act immediately to enforce more strict gun regulations and work to
end the hateful, racist rhetoric that is motivating acts of violence against
communities of color.

On Saturday, August 10th at 8:30am MT, LULAC will hold a march and rally called
“March for a United America [ [link removed] ] ”
in response to the mass shootings in El Paso. The march in El Paso will begin at
Armijo Park (710 E 7th Ave.) and end at the El Paso County Courthouse (500 E. San
Antonio Ave.) For additional information on the rally please visit:
