This is about human dignity and freedom: Read up on the latest.
ACLU Supporter, imagine waking up to go to school every day, ready to learn and connect with friends, but being denied the same freedoms as everyone else.
For transgender students like A.C. in Indiana, that's the harsh reality. His right to use the restroom aligned with his gender identity was denied, exposing him to an unsafe environment and jeopardizing his wellbeing.
This is about more than bathrooms. Denying transgender students equal access to school facilities doesn't protect anyone, it isolates and exposes them to potential harm. That's why the ACLU of Indiana fought for A.C. and his family in court and won.
This week, the Supreme Court cemented that victory by declining to consider the district's attempt to challenge this ruling – requiring the school to treat trans students equally.
Ensuring A.C.'s rights paves the way for more transgender students to feel safe and supported in a school environment – but the case should never have gotten that far to begin with, and the fight is far from over.
As state legislatures kick off across the country, we know that misinformation and transphobic fearmongering will only lead to more dangerous attempts to restrict rights for trans people, especially children. The ACLU is prepared to fight back at every level – from courtrooms to the Capitol – because we cannot allow legislators to continue writing discrimination into law.
As we chart the way forward for trans justice, we're so grateful to have you with us. Please keep yourself updated on the fight for trans rights by diving into our most recent podcast episode today (and be sure to share with your community!). <[link removed]>
