Tell the Senate Education committee to REJECT SB 37 and SB 68!
Dear John,
The 2024 General Assembly is in session and LGBTQ+ Virginians are showing up in force to protect our rights! As you may remember from the 2023 session, community advocates like you helped defeat 12 anti-trans bills that would have negatively impacted safe educational spaces, access to healthcare, and participation in sports for transgender and nonbinary youth. Unfortunately, anti-equality lawmakers have chosen to ignore the demands of their constituents and reintroduced two of those bills we strongly opposed and defeated last year.
But there’s good news– there’s time for you to take action and defeat these bills again.
On Thursday January 18th, the Senate Public Education Subcommittee will hear and take a vote on SB 37 (McGuire), a forced outing bill, and SB 68 (Peake), a transgender athlete ban. The subcommittee hearing, scheduled for 30 minutes after the Senate adjourns, will be the only time the committee takes public testimony on these bills. In other words, if you’d like to express your opposition to the bills we encourage you take one of two actions:
Email the Senate Education committee and share your opposition to these two bills! This action takes less than 2 minutes to complete. Take Action [[link removed]]
Join EV Advocates, community members, and our partners in Senate Room C on the 3rd floor of the new General Assembly Building (201 North 9th Street, 23219) to pack the room or testify in-person (there is no virtual testimony for subcommittee hearings). There is no prior sign-up needed to testify in-person. Please reach out to [email protected] [[email protected]] if you have any questions or need support with your testimony.

We’re only at the beginning of the 2024 session and we have a BIG opportunity to show how powerful our community is by defeating SB 37 and SB 68 this week.
I hope you’ll join us– whether that’s sending an email or showing up in-person– to send a message that our joy and authenticity can’t be defeated.
If you aren’t able to attend in person this time, the live stream and recorded version of the sub-committee meeting can be found here [[link removed]] .
