Dear Friends,

This week the House of Representatives will be voting on two bills: The so-called ‘Pregnant Students’ Rights Act’, and the ‘Supporting Pregnant Women and Families.’ Despite the names, these bills do nothing to inform or support pregnant students, women and their families. The first bill pretends to provide information to pregnant students on college campuses about their rights and resources. However, it limits the information and resources to only carrying a pregnancy to term. Not only does this bill not provide the full scope of rights, resources and other information to pregnant students, but it is explicitly anti-abortion.

The second bill increases funding to crisis pregnancy centers or CPCs. CPCs are fake clinics that purport to provide health care, resources, and full range of information to pregnant people. However, these fake clinics are explicitly anti-abortion, provide misleading or even blatantly false information about pregnancy and abortion, and are not real medical clinics.

As we begin a new year, we continue to face a host of economic challenges, and a serious lack of access to health care including birth control and abortion care. We’re even running up against another potential continuing resolution (CR) to avert a government shutdown. Despite this, anti-abortion policymakers would rather focus on further attack reproductive health and rights. We urge you to contact your representative and tell them to vote no on these anti-abortion bills. For more information and resources, please visit our updated Federal Policy Action Center
