This is a big deal—because so much of the Treasurer’s job revolves around our state pension and health plans, I often like to say that state employees are the main constituency of the Treasurer’s office. Having their endorsement to be the manager of those plans is a huge vote of confidence, and one I couldn’t be prouder to have.
I’ll let their announcement say it best:
“No elected official other than the governor has more of an impact on state employees and retirees than the State Treasurer. We must have a champion in that office who will put our needs ahead of greedy Wall Street managers and hospital CEOs. Wesley Harris is committed to doing that.” — Statewide Chairman Mark Dearmon
Now, this endorsement carries a lot of weight in our race—but it’s not a guarantee. Having the state employees behind us gives us a lot of momentum, but it is incumbent upon us to take that momentum and back it up with organizing and good old-fashioned elbow grease to get our message out to everyone in this state who needs to hear it.
And to do that, I once again need your help. Can I count on you to make a contribution—whatever you can afford—to my campaign for State Treasurer? It will take each and every one of us pitching in to reach the voters we need to. We can’t do this without your support.
