1) Trump v. Biden 2.0
Two things have happened since the start of the year that have changed the Presidential sweepstakes. First, Trump looks nearly invincible as the GOP nominee based on his 30-point win in Iowa and an equally large gap in the national polls against Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley.

But much more unexpected is that it appears that the Democratic Party faithful and the party’s opinion leaders are rallying around Joe Biden as a result of the improved economy. This is a big and welcome surprise for those of us who thought that Democrats would throw Biden over the side of the bus in the months ahead.

Right now, Biden is a 75% favorite and Trump an 87% favorite to win their party’s nominations.

Although Nikki Haley may pull off an upset in New Hampshire, Trump is trouncing her in her home state of South Carolina. Trump is soundly beating DeSantis in Florida. This is probably going to be over in a hurry.

As for the Democrats, they’re boxed in. We maintain that the only possible worse choice for the Democrats at the top of their ticket would be Kamala.

Do you know ANYONE who actually wants Joe Biden to be president for four more years or who believes he’s mentally up to the task? The Biden vote is simply an anti-Trump vote and, truth be told, there may be enough of those voters for Democrats to win.

Our view is if the economy continues to improve – a truly open question – Biden can win. If things deteriorate, he’s toast.

In 2016 Democrats tethered themselves to Hillary – the only person who could lose to Trump.

In 2024 they may do the same thing.

2) China Is Shrinking
China's National Bureau of Statistics reports that China's population declined by 2 million in 2023, doubling the loss of 2022.

More importantly, 2023 saw a continuing dearth of births, dropping to 9 million from 9.5 million in 2022.

Deaths exceeded births, at 11.1 million, in 2023.

The total fertility rate (the average number of births to women of child-bearing years) dropped to nearly 1.00, less than half the 2.10 required to maintain the population. Birth rates are lower today than during the brutish one-child policy.

In 2015, the one-child policy was repealed, with births rising to 17.86 million in 2016. ([link removed]). Since that time, births have dropped nearly 50 percent. It’s hard for a nation to claim to be an economic powerhouse when its population is falling.

3) People of Color Are Getting Very Rich in America
The latest Census data is out on income levels by ethnicity. The good news is that the latest data flatly contradict the left’s narrative that America is “systematically racist.” As the chart below shows, by far the most affluent group is NOT whites, but Asians. Most Asians have brown skin. That doesn't seem to be holding them back.

Remarkably, immigrants from one of the poorest countries in the world — India — are doing phenomenally well. Indian Americans are the richest ethnic group with an average income DOUBLE that of whites.

We’re happy to report that Hispanics are climbing the ladder of economic opportunity and now have an average income of $58,000. Sadly, black Americans are lagging behind. Hispanics have moved ahead of blacks.

Why? If the Democrats really believed that “black lives matter,” they’d do more to expand educational opportunities in the inner cities, promote fatherhood, and stop treating blacks as victims. The “systemic racism” argument has become an all-too familiar excuse for failure.

5) Bring Back Johnny Carson
Some of your editors of a certain age can remember when late-night comedy talk-show hosts were, well, funny. Now they’re just unfunny political hacks.

According to a new study by our pals at the Media Research Center, 81 percent of political jokes told on major late-night talk shows in 2023 targeted conservatives and Republicans.

“Last year late-night comedians told 9,518 political jokes, and of these 7,729 were directed at someone or something on the right side of the political spectrum," the MRC found. By far the most biased was Jimmy Kimmel on ABC. Seth Meyers on NBC was also heavily biased against conservatives. Amazingly, the “comedians” made fun of Trump’s kids nine times more often than of Hunter Biden – who would seem to be a poster child for late-night jokesters.

The only glimmer of hope here is that no one watches these rotten shows anymore. You can get more laughs on the Cartoon Network.
