Hi, It’s been over six years since Donald Trump–appointed FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai repealed net neutrality protections.1 But now the FCC has proposed restoring net neutrality and Title II authority, and we’re closer than ever to victory. Tomorrow is the very last day the FCC will accept public comments on its proposal to restore open internet protections, and we need a major push right now to overcome the Comcast and the Big Cable lobbyists trying to block it.
Net neutrality requires internet service providers like Comcast and Verizon to treat all websites, apps, and content the same. That means ISPs can’t create slow lanes for regular people like you and me, and fast lanes for their own content.2 This foundational principle is what has allowed the very best parts of the internet to flower and grow. Net neutrality allows small startups and grassroots organizations to compete on a level playing field with giant corporations. When the FCC proposed to restore net neutrality late last year, Demand Progress Action joined with over 30 partner organizations to relaunch BattleForTheNet.com, so people can tell the FCC and Congress why the policy is vital to them. In less than three months, there have been over 85,000 actions on the site. But Comcast alone has spent tens of millions of dollars on campaign contributions and lobbying. So to overcome their opposition, we must keep pushing every day until we win Title II authority and net neutrality is restored to guarantee a free and open internet for all.3 With gratitude for all that you do, Sources: PAID FOR BY DEMAND PROGRESS (DemandProgress.org) and not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.
