My office filed a lawsuit to prevent the merger of two major grocery stores, Kroger and Albertsons.
Big News – my office filed a lawsuit to prevent the merger of two major grocery store chains, Kroger and Albertsons. As Attorney General, I fight hard to protect workers and consumers. This proposed deal harms both.
These two corporations own QFC, Fred Meyer, and Safeway and they account for more than 50% of all supermarket sales in our state.
Too much consolidation of corporate power results in limited choices, fewer convenient locations, and potentially higher prices due to a lack of competition in the market. When major companies form monopolies, workers and consumers lose.
Grocery prices are already too high. That’s why I’m leading the fight to block this merger.
Washingtonians deserve fair prices and healthy market competition. That’s why this lawsuit is designed to ensure it will help Washingtonians in every community in our state. As Governor, I’ll fight for a fair economy.
If you’d like to support my campaign for Governor, we’re currently prohibited from accepting any campaign contributions until the end of the legislative session, but you can still help us win by signing up to volunteer today.
