I want to talk with you today about what the pundits are missing about the Iowa Caucus. You’re hearing lots of noise about what yesterday’s results mean for Republican candidates. But I want to talk about what the pundits are missing: what this means for our country.

In case you haven’t dug into the numbers, Donald Trump won by a landslide beating DeSantis and Haley by over 30 pts.

Trump, with his energized MAGA base and his 91 criminal charges, is almost certainly going to be the Republican nominee. It is very unlikely that DeSantis or Haley catch him. And this has severe consequences for our country.

Donald Trump, the man who came incredibly close to overthrowing the 2020 election, is back. The Republican establishment has endorsed him. Billionaire donors are raising him money. Caucus goers in Iowa just gave him the largest win margin in history.

Let me be very clear: Just the action of letting Trump back into the political arena is a wound to our democracy.

We cannot for one second take our democracy and this upcoming election for granted. We all remember how we felt in 2016. We are headed for another trainwreck if we don’t all lean in, right now, and get up off the sidelines.

Please don’t ignore what happened yesterday. The momentum is building for a MAGA wave and we have to stop it.
