John,
Like you, we
saw the statement issued on Friday moments before Shabbat by Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau and Minister Melanie Joly outlining Canada’s position
on South Africa’s application at the International Court of
Justice.
While media reports initially suggested that, based on
confusing and ambiguous language, the government was not going to
accept the premise of South Africa’s claims, later reports “clarified”
the government would, in this case, remain
“neutral.”
That was truly disappointing. As were other
allies of Israel, the government of Canada should have been clear and
unequivocal in their condemnation of South Africa’s
accusations.
Afterall, if Canada truly stands against terror, against
antisemitism, and with international law, it should denounce the
application and issue a response similar to those of US and
Germany.
If they need clarity, here it is: South Africa’s application
to the ICJ is a libelous genocide claim against Israel and an abuse of
the international legal system to which Canada professes an abiding
commitment.
That’s why we need you to send a message to Minister Joly and
Prime Minister Trudeau and the rest of the government
caucus demanding that they denounce South Africa’s specious claims at
the International Court of Justice.
Please join us in sending them both a letter by clicking
here.
Anti-Israel activists have sunk to a new low by accusing
Israel of the very thing from which the Jewish state is defending
itself.
The Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister need to stand
up and declare without ambiguity that this accusation against Israel
is unacceptable.
Help us urge the government, following the lead of the United
States, to denounce South Africa's shameful, false
charge.
