Ayanna Pressley for Congress

“The more I learned about her, the more I said ‘She’s my hero.’”

These were Ayanna’s words about 17 year-old Ariana “Ari” Hargrove, a high school senior who is applying to colleges and living with lupus.

Ari’s story is one of inspiration. Despite the challenges of dealing with her lupus, her spirit never wavers. She uses it to push her to keep going. After hearing Ari’s story, Ayanna knew she was a fighter and a hero. When Ayanna learned Ari wanted to use her wish from the Make-A-Wish program to visit Spelman College and other HBCUs in Atlanta, she knew that there was no one more deserving of having their wish granted.

Ayanna surprised Ari in a room full of her family and friends to give her the good news.

Ayanna was so moved by Ari’s story: “On her worst days, she has just kept that indomitable spirit, kept her joy. And that is just so inspiring.”

Right now, there are many other children with stories just like Ari, who are navigating living with critical illnesses. Make-A-Wish is granting hundreds of thousands of life-changing wishes to these children to give them and their families hope in the face of such challenging struggles.

If you’re able, please support the Make-A-Wish Foundation with a contribution today. Your donation will go directly to their work helping to grant the wishes of children diagnosed with a critical illness.
