Assalamu'alaykum John,
I hope this message finds you in the best of health and Iman during this
unprecedented moment in our history.
First and foremost, I ask Allah (swt) to help us through this pandemic
and overcome the trials it brings on an individual, community, and
global level. We must trust in His infinite Wisdom and pray for his
limitless Mercy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been afflicted by
this illness. We also salute the warriors on the front lines: the
doctors and healthcare workers working around the clock, at great risk
to their health, to manage this crisis.
We are especially grateful for the thousands of Muslim American doctors
and professionals who make up a proportionally significant percentage of
the medical community and whose identity behind the mask is never a
question in times like these.
When the pandemic has passed, we need to ensure that MLFA is there for
when the masks come off and our American Muslim identity becomes a focus
once again.
Will you help sustain our
mission through COVID-19?
Earlier this year, we had a vision to expand legal services in 2020.
With the rapidly developing situation at hand, we have scaled back our
initial goals and are focusing on maintaining operational status to
ensure that we can manage current caseloads loads while utilizing donor
funds efficiently and effectively.
MLFA has grounded its development staff and postponed events, in
compliance with recommended precautions. That said, our work cannot stop
now, and we are counting on our donor community to help sustain the
critical work of justice through this uncharted time.
We need to hold where we are at, and make sure we are there when it's
over!
A few weeks ago, we launched the Sustainers for Justice Monthly Giving
Program , and it is now more
timely than ever to mobilize our supporters to join this effort. Please
consider becoming a Sustainer for Justice
for any amount you can pitch in
monthly to ensure that the work of justice continues.
Don't let this effort be a casualty of COVID-19.
We rely on donor funds to make the work of justice possible.
MLFA's Sustainers for Justice
is the #1 way to
support the work of justice, together.
May God protect us all, and help us emerge stronger and more united from
the trials that befall us.
In faith and for justice,
Khalil Meek
