HAPPENING TODAY: URGE REPS TO VOTE NO ON ANTI-ABORTION EXTREMISM
At a time when young people face insurmountable student loan debt and prevalent gun violence, and low-income communities of color confront multiple healthcare and economic disparities, the focus should be on advancing policies that provide real and valuable solutions — rather than continuing anti-abortion extremism.
Hey -
Today, January 16, 2024, the House Committee on Rules will be taking a vote on:
*
H.R.
6914,
Pregnant
Students’
Right
Act
(OPPOSE)
*
H.R.
6918,
Supporting
Pregnant
and
Parenting
Women
and
Families
Act
(OPPOSE)
Despite their titles, H.R. 6914 and H.R. 6918 are attempts to codify anti-abortion rhetoric and funnel critical funding support meant for families in need into illegitimate health care facilities that mislead and further harm people seeking access to reproductive healthcare.
*
H.R.
6914,
the
so-called
Pregnant
Students’
Rights
Act
,
does
nothing
to
address
the
real
needs
of
pregnant
and
parenting
students
but
rather
is
a
veiled
attempt
to
limit
the
reproductive
health
care
decisions
and
pregnancy
outcomes
of
students.
Given
the
many
issues
facing
young
people
in
the
education
system,
this
bill
fails
to
meaningfully
address
any
of
these
barriers.

*
H.R.
6918,
the
so-called
Supporting
Pregnant
and
Parenting
Women
and
Families
Ac
t,
is
another
bait-and-switch
bill
that
would
support
states
continuing
to
use
funds
meant
for
food,
rent,
and
childcare
under
the
Temporary
Assistance
for
Needy
Families
(TANF)
program
to
anti-abortion
“crisis
pregnancy
centers.”
These
facilities
are
dangerous
and
ultimately
cause
harm
to
people
seeking
access
to
reproductive
healthcare
and
accurate
information.
We urge you to take action now and send this note to Chairman Rep. Tom Cole and Members of the House Committee on Rules through this form here>> [[link removed]]
