Anti-gun lawmakers in New Mexico are wasting no time in their attempt to erode your Second Amendment rights. Senator Linda M. Lopez (D – 11) has pre-filed the “Firearms and Ammunition Tax Act” – a bill that seeks to impose an 11% excise tax on the sale of firearms, suppressors, ammunition, and “firearm precursor parts”. It will be assigned a bill number after the legislature convenes on Tuesday, January 16th.

If enacted, Sen. Lopez’ unconstitutional tax would bring New Mexico in line with California, whose new 11% tax on firearm and ammunition sales is set to commence on July 1, 2024. The goal of this type of legislation is not to enhance public safety, but rather to make it more burdensome and expensive for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Constitutionally protected Second Amendment rights.

Help the American Suppressor Association defeat this unconstitutional tax by contacting your legislators in New Mexico today!
