JOHN,
When I decided to run for office to represent the 15th District of the Missouri State Senate, I set down a few key rules for how my team and I would run this campaign:
1.
Focus
on
the
issues
that
matter
to
people.
Don’t
play
politics.
2.
Be
disciplined
and
stay
the
course.
Don’t
get
distracted
by
personal
or
petty
attacks.
3.
Make
the
case
for
change—
and
show
how
we
can
do
it.
Politics should be uplifting. It should be about people of all backgrounds coming together to solve problems and make change happen. Not the vanity contests and mud-slinging race to the bottom that turns good people off and ruins their faith in democracy.
I have two beautiful young granddaughters who also live in the 15th District, and I think of them before I do any of this. I think of making them proud…and I think of what kind of world and society they will inherit.
I also think of the hundreds of people, many of them new to politics and getting involved for the first time, who are in this because they believe we still can—and should—settle our differences peacefully and democratically. We owe it to them to run a sharp, disciplined, principled campaign that can win.
