Stop The Bleed Coalition || Jan 16, 2024
The Stop The Bleed Coalition just launched the new Virtual STOP THE BLEED® Skills Verification program. This is designed to support individuals who have applied to become a licensed STOP THE BLEED® Instructor and who meet all of the qualifications, except for one - that they have not yet taken an approved STOP THE BLEED® class.
There are a number of people who apply to become licensed STOP THE BLEED® instructor who meet all of the requirements, except they have not yet taken an approved STOP THE BLEED® class. Many of these individuals have not taken a class because they are unable to find one in their area. The Virtual Skills Verification program solves this problem.
Once someone applies for a STOP THE BLEED® Instructor license, they can sign up for a virtual session with a qualified instructor to demonstrate the proper application of a tourniquet and how to pack a wound as well as general STOP THE BLEED® knowledge. These sessions typically last 15 to 30 minutes. Once completed, instructor applicants will receive the STOP THE BLEED® Instructor License approval!

** Calm in Chaos stops the bleeding of unpreparedness in Marblehead
------------------------------------------------------------
By Benjamin Pierce
Item Live || January 11, 2024
Matthew Christensen is using his experience to help the community be prepared for emergencies by providing the necessary knowledge and equipment.
Calm in Chaos recently broke ground as a consulting agency focusing on everyday survival, preparation, and medical training. Christensen spent three years in the army before returning to his hometown to join the Marblehead Fire Department. He eventually found himself as the fire department’s emergency services coordinator. As his career progressed, he continued to take specialty courses on various situations, such as self-defense, mass shooting response, and tactical emergency casualty care.
“I’m never stopping learning,” Christensen said.
While Christensen offers an ever-expanding list of courses, Stop the Bleed is at the forefront. Christensen is a certified instructor of the national awareness campaign that trains the public to help in a bleeding emergency, most commonly gunshot wounds, before professional medical assistance arrives.
As the demand for his teachings increased, his wife Laura, along with life-long friend and owner of both Marblehead Movers and First Colony Jiu-Jitsu Liam McGeown, suggested they start a business.
“Literally, people would call him,” McGeown said. “I was like, ‘Matt, we got to just get this going.”
All of Calm in Chaos’ teachings are free of charge. An equally important aspect of the business for Christensen and McGeown is making their “medical pouches” accessible and affordable for their clients. The kits contain high-end certified emergency equipment such as Combat Application Tourniquets, hemostatic-infused gauze, and chest ventilation pads.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has some new tools to help keep the community safe. Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Trauma Services recently gifted the sheriff’s office 40 individual Medical First Aid Kits for each uniformed deputy. We’re told this was done in an effort to support the community’s law enforcement officers.
Officials say medical professionals will provide the deputies with STOP THE BLEED® training.
“STOP THE BLEED® is a national awareness campaign that encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before medical help arrives,” says an official with Owensboro Health.
That training will begin within the next few weeks.
