Florida man with 91 criminal charges scrambles to NYC to attend new rape defamation trial after winning Iowa GOP caucuses
The runaway Republican frontrunner for president had to cut his Iowa victory lap short and scramble back to New York City to make yet another appearance at his ongoing rape defamation trial, which is set to resume today. Reminder: a jury has already found that Trump committed the sexual assault, and this latest trial will determine if the disgraced ex-president must pay millions more for continuing to defame E. Jean Carroll after being ordered to pay her $5 million in damages last May. Undeterred by things like rape and defamation, the party of fAmiLy VaLuEs continues to enthusiastically rally around the confirmed sexual assailant.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump gets nightmare news out of Iowa caucus
While Donald Trump undoubtedly emerged victorious in Monday night's frigid Iowa caucuses, handily defeating his feckless Republican rivals in the whitest first nominating contest in the nation, there are three very troubling take-aways for the disgraced ex-president as he makes his way back to New York for even more rape defamation court proceedings. Brian Tyler Cohen breaks it all down in expert fashion.

DeSantis ekes out distant, second-place finish in Iowa
Part-time Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis edged out Nikki Haley to finish a distant second in the Iowa caucuses, all but ensuring the floundering presidential hopeful will continue campaigning at least until the Jan. 23 New Hampshire primary. DeSantis and his super PACs threw everything but the kitchen sink at Iowa, spending more than $34 million in advertising to sway voters, but could still only muster 21% of the vote, compared to Donald Trump's commanding share of 51%. Haley finished close behind DeSantis with 19%. On to the Granite State, where all three campaigns will Live Free or Die! Who we are kidding, we know what's coming next.

Vivek Ramaswamy suspends campaign after coming fourth in Iowa
Biotech entrepreneur, radical right-wing anti-woke author, admonished Eminem fanboy, and craven MAGA bootlicker Vivek Ramaswamy ran headfirst into a blinding white wall of reality in Monday night's Iowa caucuses, placing a very distant fourth behind Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Nikki Haley, prompting the 38-year-old political neophyte to accept the obvious and throw in the towel. During his doomed run, Ramaswamy aggressively pushed a litany of baseless rightwing conspiracy theories, such as the climate crisis being a hoax, the white supremacist great replacement theory, and claiming that the January 6 insurrection was a deep-state-driven "inside job" meant to bring down Trump. He made headlines for his willingness to say anything, including calling for the abolishment of the Dept. of Education, shutting down the FBI, and — why not — "using the military" along the Canadian border. Someone's gonna miss you, Vivek. We just aren't sure who...

Gorsuch urged to recuse himself from Supreme Court case over ties to billionaire oil baron
Two days before oral arguments in a Supreme Court case set to have a major impact on federal health and environmental regulation, a leading government watchdog called on Neil Gorsuch to recuse himself over his close links to Philip Anschutz, the secretive, conservative, Christian, billionaire oil baron Fortune Magazine once crowned the world's "greediest executive." Anschutz, who for years has railed against gay rights, mainstream media, evolution, and other familiar right-wing targets, personally lobbied on Gorsuch's behalf for past judicial appointments and has hosted the right-wing justice at his mountain resort — Eagles Nest (of course) — on multiple occasions for weekends of dove shooting and private speaking engagements. Brace yourselves, but should the conservative-dominated high court rule to weaken the federal government's ability to issue regulatory rules without congressional approval, oligarchs and barons like Anschutz stand to reap even more obscene windfalls of money. Funny how that works.

Bill Ackman bungles MLK to float debunked DEI claim
Billionaire hedge fund chief and anti-DEI crusader Bill Ackman, who helped lead the charge in ousting Harvard University's former (and first Black female) president, Claudine Gay, sat down with the world’s richest man Elon Musk and largely-ignored Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips on Monday — MLK Day, for those keeping score at home — where he claimed that late civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. would have disagreed with modern efforts to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in colleges, universities, and corporations. Nothing quite like three incredibly rich, privileged white men — each born into family wealth — waxing philosophical and explaining to the rest of the world what King actually meant when he tirelessly rallied for racial, social, and economic justice before being gunned down by an angry white supremacist in 1968. Why are we still having these conversations?

Surprise aspect of Trump's disqualification SURGES into spotlight
No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen: Wow.
Trump told Iowa supporters "it's worth it" to go vote for him in the deadly cold, even if they're "sick as a dog" and die after casting their ballots
When the guy you're voting for tells you dying for his success is "worth it," you aren't supporting a political movement, you are part of a cult.
