A Plan for Recovery

What to Know: TPPF has issued a Recovery Agenda for Texas, a slate of economic and public health measures that can help tough Texans weather these tough times.

The TPPF Take: State and local officials can take immediate actions to lessen the impact on Texas families.

“Let’s work together to protect Texas’ vibrant economy,” says TPPF’s Kevin Roberts. “From lifting unnecessary regulations to lightening the burden on Texas taxpayers, we must ensure that Texans are free to do what they do best—work hard to make better futures for themselves and their families.”

Wait, What?

What to Know: Some congressional Democrats want to use the coronavirus aid bill to enact their climate change agenda.

The TPPF Take: Well of course they do.

“Politicians should focus on keeping the American people safe from this virus, not on political opportunism — but even as we deal with a public health crisis, the facts show that high energy prices also have a measurable effect on health and mortality,” says TPPF’s Katie Tahuahua. “The key to safeguarding human health in the long run isn’t some quixotic combat against a climate that has always changed and will always change. The real key is access to reliable, affordable, and abundant energy.”

The Good News

What to Know: Communities are stepping up to ensure local foster kids have homes. It’s called community-based care.

The TPPF Take: Important reforms to our child protective services system mean that community non-profits are playing a greater role.

“To date, four regions of the state are operating under the new model, and preliminary results indicate that it is doing exactly what it was designed to do: revolutionize the Texas foster care system and make it more responsive to the needs of children,” says TPPF’s Andrew Brown. “While there’s still a long way to go, the move to case management is a monumental step toward making the Texas foster care system right for kids."
