Hello Friend,
This year, MLK Day falls on Dr. King’s actual birthday. The great
anti-war and social justice leader would have been 94 years old
today.
Dr. King dedicated his life to fighting against inequality and
spoke out against capitalism and militarism, as both are intertwined
with the systemic racism in the United States. It is well-documented
that once Dr. King began to challenge America's war in Vietnam, his
fiery speeches and direct action became less tolerable to those in
power. Dr. King challenged the system and dedicated his life to
creating a society where justice, equality, and peace would
prevail.
The Green Party’s four pillars and 10 key values are in line with
Dr. King’s legacy. Our Eco-socialist Green New Deal has bold
initiatives to mitigate the current climate catastrophe while creating
living wage jobs, worker protections, Medicare for All, and an
investment in truly affordable housing.
The Green Party has a long opposition to war, occupation, and the
bloated military industrial complex. Our work goes beyond electoral
politics, leading movements and organizing in communities. Instead of
trillions spent on death and destruction lining the pockets of war
profiteers, Greens are on the front lines of the movements for
national healthcare, free education, and an end to student debt.
"As I
reflect on this "King Day" and the weekend of service projects,
commemorative marches, and also the series of anti-war activities that
honor his legacy it seems
that so much has changed but so little has changed. We are still
fighting the issues in many of our communities. Hate crimes,
violence, criminalization of the poor, racism, sexism, and homophobia
and transphobia are on the rise. The planet is dying, and people are
hurting, and there are those who play politics with our lives as if no
one really matters. While the rich get richer, and the poor get
poorer."

As we do our best to uphold the unparalleled leadership and legacy
of the great Dr. King, Green Party members and supporters understand
now more than ever that there are no compromises on issues of life and
death. We organize in our communities for ceasefire resolutions from
our local representatives, for an end to the devastating failed war on
drugs, a just path to immigration citizenship, and for an end to mass
incarceration and police violence upon black and brown communities and
the poor.
As this MLK Day comes to a close,
can you help support the Green Party’s work for social and economic
justice for all people?
In solidarity,
