95 years ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born and, today, we honor his life and the profound impact he had on our nation. To this day, he is a beacon of light and hope, and his message of equality and freedom remains a lifelong call to action.
Today, we should all pay tribute to Dr. King’s legacy not just by remembering his life, but by revisiting his words and considering the actions they compel us to take.
Dr. King’s legacy isn’t merely history: It’s a reminder of the continuous journey toward freedom, justice, and equality that each of us are part of. May this Martin Luther King Jr. Day serve as a day of reflection, and a renewed commitment to the values he championed. Because as a society, we have a long way to go before our great American promise of liberty, equality, and justice are truly realized.
Finally, it is not lost on me that, if I’m elected, I will be the first Black person to represent Oregon in Congress. I stand on the shoulders of trailblazers like Dr. King, and I’ll be proud to carry their legacies with me in the Halls of Congress – just as I’ve done as the first Black Representative in the Oregon State House.
Every day – but especially today, as we honor Dr. King’s legacy – I am so grateful to be with you in this fight.
