As we celebrate MLK Day today, it is important for us to remember the consequential legacy that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. left with us and to continue this legacy by not sitting silent in the face of injustices around us.

Dr. King once famously said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." In these uncertain times, this quote should give us hope that, through service and good works, we can create better days ahead for our nation. Dr. King and his fellow freedom fighters understood that change does not come on its own -- it requires all of us to participate and help serve our communities. Each and every one of us plays a significant role in our pursuit for justice and progress for all.

As we honor Dr. King, his vision for America, and his essential role within the Civil Rights Movement, we must recommit ourselves to fulfilling Dr. King's legacy and ensuring that his message isn't forgotten. We must continue his fight for civil rights, workers' rights, and voting rights.

Dr. King recognized that, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere," and those words are just as relevant today.

I hope that you will join me today in commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy by serving your community and continuing his fight for justice.
