John,

Today, we remember the life’s work of Martin Luther King Jr.

Time and again, Dr. King put his life on the line in the struggle for
racial, economic and social justice — and in the greater struggle for
peace. He was one of the great moral leaders of the 20th century. Every
day that we organize, we can look towards his inspirational, and
difficult, work for guidance.

While Dr. King led the anti-segregation movement in the 1950s and 60s, he
also made his voice loud and clear in the anti-war movement. We look to
his bold, courageous stands, his unwavering voice, as we organize for
peace, racial justice, and economic security today.

It’s why we also look to Rep. Barbara Lee for inspirational leadership in
these difficult times. Lee not only fights for racial and economic
justice, she is one the most courageous anti-war advocates in all of
Congress. She was one of the first to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, and
she continues to work towards peace for the Palestinian people.

Lee was the lone, brave vote in Congress against the 2001 war
authorization in Afghanistan, which gave President Bush nearly unlimited
war powers. Her vote against war resulted in death threats at the time,
but was vindicated by history.

Lee was also one of the few to vote against the war in Iraq, the PATRIOT
Act, and the drone strikes in Libya. She always votes to slash the bloated
Pentagon budget, despite the majority of Congress voting to continue
giving more and more money to the U.S. military.

In Our Revolution’s recent Peace Town Hall with Lee and Rashida Tlaib, Lee
said, “Wherever I am or what platform I have, I’m going to fight for peace
and security for people no matter where they live.” She later added, “I
don’t believe in taking our resources and tax dollars to enrich arms
dealers that are scamming the system and creating war.”

As we organize for a more just future, Barbara Lee is a critical ally in
Congress — and that’s why we’re supporting her run for California’s open
U.S. Senate seat.

If you’re with us in this work for justice and peace, [ [link removed] ]please consider
adding your name to support Barbara Lee’s calls for peace today.

Thank you for your continued work to build the progressive movement.

When we organize, we win.
