COVID-19 Stimulus Package Must Include Language to End Savings Penalties for Important Programs

In response to the economic challenges caused by COVID-19, Congress is currently considering a stimulus package to provide relief to America's most vulnerable families. Prosperity Now recently submitted a comment letter [[link removed](signed).pdf], signed by our national partners, urging Congress to incorporate the ASSET Act (S. 3276/H.R. 5848) into emergency relief legislation. This bill would, among other things, greatly reduce barriers associated with enrolling in public assistance by removing asset limits, or savings penalties, for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program; the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

Now, we need your help to ensure this legislation is added to the COVID-19 stimulus package. Please take two minutes to email your legislators today and ask them to support the ASSET Act to eliminate barriers in an effort to provide much needed relief to working families!
