Hello,

In this week’s edition, I discuss how to make incremental changes to better your life by abandoning that which harms you. Then, I talk with former-Scientologist and podcaster Aaron Levin-Smith about his upbringing, how Scientology entices new members, and what ultimately broke Aaron’s belief and initiated his fight against this cult. From the archives, I revisit conversations proving how tough people really are.

How To Initiate Change In Your Life

If you are overwhelmed by mistakes you have made and want to take a first step toward a better life, you can begin by meditating in those circumstances. Then, decide that you want your life to be better. Decide that it would be acceptable in the sight of God and the universe if your life was better and you were doing well.

Next, concentrate on what you can stop doing. Stopping what is not good for you is repentance — not in a technically religious sense but, rather, in a psychological sense. Think of and choose small things because you don’t want to be grandiose at the beginning. You can start improving your life incrementally by eliminating what is self-evidently making you bitter and miserable.

But you must decide that is what you want to do. You must be willing to sacrifice the bitterness and unhappiness, even though you may feel you are justified in harboring them. And you may very well be justified; people have hard lives, and sometimes they are badly mistreated. But in order to improve your life, you need to think that it is ok if things improve, that it would be worthwhile to abandon your failures and what you know to be harmful, and, instead, take proper aim to move forward.

Meditations With Oliver Anthony: Negotiating A Shared Vision And Taking A Leap Of Faith

First of all, you must have faith to do anything. You cannot do anything unless you have faith in it. So maybe you have faith in your nine-to-five routine and you think that is the best that there is. And that is faith, too, because like you said, you might be run over by a bus tomorrow and who the hell knows what is going to happen? You are going to put your faith somewhere. Then the question is, where should you put your faith?

Raised By Thetans In A Galactic Gulag | Aaron Smith-Levin | EP 413

This week, I speak with former-Scientologist and podcaster Aaron Levin-Smith. We explore his upbringing within the “church,” how Scientology entices new members, the basis for Dianetics in Freudian psychology, the higher being known as Xenu, what broke Aaron’s belief, and his now ongoing fight against the manipulation of this still relevant, international cult.

From The Archives

People Are Tough

Funeral home directors and palliative care nurses have given me the same answer when I have asked them how working daily with death affects their life. They both say their work enriches their lives and makes them more meaningful. History shows people are tough, and this is evidence that you are as well.
