Honoring the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His impact is immeasurable and we strive to honor his memory through our own actions. 

Fighting For Disabled Veterans 

Last week, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing with Secretary Marcia Fudge to conduct oversight of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). 

HUD red tape is blocking disabled veterans from receiving the support they deserve. Despite my efforts, Secretary Fudge refuses to issue simple guidance to help these deserving veterans.

During the hearing, I held the Secretary accountable for her inaction on the matter. I am grateful to Tenth District non-profit, Purple Heart Homes, for raising this important issue.

Celebrating the Tenth District's App Challenge Winner 

Congratulations to Mooresville’s Muhammad Fawwaz on winning the 2023 Congressional App Challenge for the Tenth District.

The South Iredell High School student created The AI Eye, a program designed to assist visually impaired individuals with object identification.

Congratulations to Iredell County's Taylor Loyd on representing North Carolina in the Miss America pageant last night. Taylor didn't take home the crown, but was recognized for her outstanding singing talent. Thanks to Taylor for making Iredell County and North Carolina proud!

Mitchell Community College will host A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Tuesday, January 16, at 6 p.m. in Rotary Auditorium on the Statesville campus. The public is invited to attend with college faculty, staff, and students taking part in the program.
