Dear friend,
I wanted to provide you with a quick update on the coronavirus relief bill in Congress, as well as a way that you can help ensure Mississippians have the food they need during this public health and economic crisis.
First, I’m pleased to share that with public pressure from folks like you, the Senate finally passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act , which President Trump signed into law yesterday. That is a major first step in providing affected workers with paid leave, food aid, unemployment benefits, and free COVID-19 testing.
But in the meantime, we can all come together to support each other and ensure those most vulnerable have access to the most basic necessities. With Governor Reeves’ announcement that all schools will remain closed until April 17, countless children here in Mississippi will be without their free breakfasts and lunches for weeks. And with many restaurants, bars, and nonessential businesses closed, too many workers are left without paychecks during this pandemic.
That’s why I’m asking if you’ll make a contribution to three critical organizations providing aid to those in need: Mississippi Food Network, Stewpot, and Operation Shoestring.
Mississippi Food Network provides more than 18 million meals to people in our state struggling with hunger every year. Stewpot is a local organization based in Jackson that provides nutritional meals to the community. And Operation Shoestring provides academic and personal development programs to children as well as resources for their families.
If you can afford to, will you pitch in and support these three great organizations today to help those in need during this national emergency?
