As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today, we must wrestle with the fact that the progress he gave his life for is not guaranteed — that much is clear in today’s ongoing struggle for voting rights.

Today, we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his life's work: to secure equality for Black Americans in the face of relentless violence and discrimination.

And every day, we honor his legacy by recommitting to the fight for a more perfect democracy.

The National Democratic Redistricting Committee was founded to help rebuild a democracy where voters pick their politicians — not the other way around.

We fight for fair maps and support Democracy Defenders who are committed to protect the voting rights of all communities — especially marginalized communities that have been historically disenfranchised by gerrymandering.

Across the country, Republican politicians have passed onerous voting restrictions that threaten to reverse the gains Dr. King and his contemporaries fought so hard for. This coordinated attack on voting rights is on a scale not seen since the days of Jim Crow.

We cannot allow them to succeed.

Dr. King believed that every one of us has a role to play — and that when we come together, we can overcome injustice and confront inequality. So on this MLK Day, as we celebrate his legacy, let us also recommit ourselves to his struggle for the America we know is possible.

We know that with you by our side, we can and will bend the arc of the moral universe toward justice.

Thanks for all you do,
Team NDRC
