Today would have been Dr. King’s 95th birthday.

We honor him today for the bravery, the sacrifice, and the generations of people he inspired to fight for a more just and equitable world — to never accept “anything less than freedom and justice.”

At his core, Dr. King was determined to make the world a better place. He put this struggle ahead of every aspect of his life, dismantling economic and racial injustice anywhere he could.

Dr. King himself was incarcerated on trumped up charges 29 times throughout his life. While wrongfully imprisoned, he wrote “Letter from Birmingham Jail” where he warns us that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. During the non-violent Montgomery Bus Boycott, his Alabama home was bombed with his family inside. He kept up the boycott for another 6 months .

Nothing could stop him and nothing can stop what he stood for.

The work isn’t over. It’s on us to keep his vision of progress alive through tireless effort and persistent work.

Let’s follow Dr. King’s example for a more just world.

Thank you for honoring him,

— Monica Montgomery Steppe
