Today we honor and remember the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His fight for racial justice inspired a sea change in our nation and around the world.

Nearly 60 years ago, Dr. King led thousands of people to protest against barriers to voting. Civil rights activists worked tirelessly to pass the 1965 Voting Rights Act, a landmark piece of legislation — but Dr. King knew that the work was far from over. We can see today that he was right.

As we honor Dr. King and those who marched with him, we must remember that this work is the work of lifetimes. He understood that changing hearts and changing laws worked in tandem; that progress on each front allowed the other to grow. We must wake up every day and decide to work for justice and equality, and teach our children to do the same.

With these ideals in mind, I recommit to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision for total political enfranchisement and voting freedom. And I invite you, {FirstName or 'friend'}}, to reflect on Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy with me.
